Lina1“I have been very pleased to premiere my work Candy Shop at the Counterflows festival this year. The support towards the realization of my piece was far beyond my expectations – me and my performers had a dedicated time and space to work with festivals technical team to make the final adjustments towards the performance. Festival team made extremely good job to fulfill our technical needs and were able to assist us with the highest quality skills. The night of our performance was very well attended and I feel that the work got a really good exposure and reached relatively big audience.”
Lina Lapelyte, artists.

Lithuanian Lina Lapelyte’s Candy Shop sextet of precisely-pitched harmony vocals might seem sweet on the surface, but after you have given it a listen for a few minutes, you’ll have an earful. With spare synthesiser, theremin, electronics and accordion accompaniment – as well as sporadic video – Candy Shop repurposes the sexist ranting of hiphop and rap to devastating effect. Did these women just sing what you thought they sang? You bet your sweet patootie. Candy Shop would be a sensation at the Edinburgh Fringe.
